Which Kurdish Dialect (Sorani/Kurmanji) is More Useful for Travel in Iraqi Kurdistan?

I'm heading to Iraqi Kurdistan soon and I'm really keen to learn some basic Kurdish phrases. I know there are two main dialects, Sorani and Kurmanji, and I'm quite confused about which one would be more beneficial to focus on for general communication in cities like Erbil or Sulaymaniyah.
